Library Visits

The Youth Services staff invites you to schedule a class visit to Skokie Public Library. We will tailor the visit to meet the information needs and reading level of your students in kindergarten through 8th grade. All library visits will include a grade-appropriate tour and time to select and check out books.

photoStudents in kindergarten and 1st grade will enjoy stories in addition to the tour. Second grade students learn how books are organized on the Library shelves and listen to short descriptions of 10 different books for beginning readers. Third and 4th grade students will exercise their library skills by finding the answers to our “Treasure Hunt.” Tours for students in 5th through 8th grade will focus on research skills using both print and computer resources. Please schedule time to visit us this school year so that you can share with your students all that Youth Services and Skokie Public Library have to offer.

Library visits may be scheduled between October 3, 2011 and April 30, 2012 on Monday or Thursday afternoons from 1:00-2:30 p.m. or Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Call Susan Heist Carlton at 847.324.3144 or the Youth Services Desk at 847.324.3149 beginning September 1, 2011 to reserve a date for your Library visit.

NEW! Read the Library's social story about going to the Library. This short story, written from a child's point of view, is meant to help children learn appropriate social behavior in the Library. With short sentences and colorful photos, it is appropriate for children on the autism spectrum as well as those who are not.
