- The Olympics have begun! Take a look at our new online display for kids about the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
- Registration for Fall Storytimes will begin on Tuesday, September 2.
- Skokie Public Library currently has several job openings.
- We've scheduled two additional showings of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as part of our ongoing World Film Fest series.
- We've created a new screencast called Using the Magazine and Newspaper Locator. Other available screencasts include: Downloading eAudiobooks from the North Suburban Digital Consortium, Features of the Skokie Public Library Catalog and Searching for Obituaries Using the Library Website.
- The 2008-2009 Lyric Opera season will begin soon and we've put together a list of DVDs, CDs, librettos, and commentaries for this season's operas.
- Fans of Carl Hiaasen's zany crime capers set in the steamy South will enjoy the authors on our new Carl Hiaasen Read-a-Like list who mix humor and suspense in stories filled with outlandish characters and wacky plot twists.
- Take a trip down memory lane with some music from our new Motown Classics list!
- Each year at the Venice Film Festival the Golden Lion award is given to the best film shown at the festival. We've compiled a list of Golden Lion winners back to 1980; most of the winners are in the Library's collection.
- Fans of the new film version of Brideshead Revisited may enjoy some of the other titles on our new view-a-like list.
- The next Teen Movie Night will be held on Friday, August 29 and will feature Step Up 2: The Streets.

- Celebrate the diversity of Skokie! The Library now offers a Korean portal to our sites, in addition to the existing Russian and Spanish portals.
- The Library has quite a collection of Latin music. Check out some of the titles that have won Latin Grammys.
- We've added two new online displays for kids: Graphic Novels and Audiobooks.

- We've added new Adventure and Graphic Novels staff favorites booklists to our Reading Patch Club program.
- Teens: Make a note of our next Manga/Anime Appreciation Club meeting on Monday, August 18. We'll be discussing Spiral by Kyo Shirodaira.

- Dog lovers take note! We've compiled a list of Dog Fiction. If you are more of a cat person you might like our previously published list of Cat Tales.
- The countries and territories of the West Indies have histories and cultures that provide rich fodder for fiction. We've put together a list of Caribbean Fiction, novels set in Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Jamaica, and Trinidad.

- Seniors: Join us on Tuesday, July 22 from 1:30 to 3:30pm for some exciting Wii Sports at the Library. We'll have a Nintendo Wii video game system set up with games like bowling, boxing, tennis, and golf!
- Our next Teen movie night on Friday, July 25 will feature the film Be Kind Rewind.

- The American Film Institute (AFI) recently announced their 10 Top 10: America's 10 Greatest Films in 10 Classic Genres. All of the titles are available for checkout at Skokie Public Library!
- If you are enjoying warm, sunny summer weather you may like one of the movies on our recently updated list of Warm Weather Films.
- Join us on Wednesday, July 9 on the Village Green (located on the east side of the Library) from 7:00 to 8:00pm to see BMX World Champion Matt Wilhelm perform amazing bike stunts.
- Ravinia comes to your Library on Wednesday, July 16 from 7:00 to 8:15pm for a presentation on Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony, which is the piece selected as Ravinia's "One Score, One Chicago" work for this season. A few lucky attendees will win free lawn passes to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performance of this symphony at Ravinia on July 26! Sign up online or call 847.673.3733 to register.

- There's still plenty of time to Get in the Game with our kids, teen, or adult summer reading clubs. The programs run through July 31. And new this year is a Summer Viewing and Listening Club for adults and teens.
