- If you have a question about college planning and financial aid, stop by the Library on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00pm when Lacy Wood, a representative of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), will be here.
- The next Teen Movie Night will be Friday, November 27 at 7:00pm.
- Get your entries in for our 11th Annual Teen Poetry Contest! The deadline is Monday, December 14.
- There are a number of bestselling authors with new releases scheduled in the next few months. Skokie card holders can reserve a copy of their favorite titles by visiting our Recent and Upcoming Bestsellers list.

- The Library now offers access to two digital microfilm products:
Chicago Tribune Digital Microfilm from ProQuest provides full image content of the Chicago Tribune beginning in 2008. The content is not searchable, but is browsable. Use the Chicago Tribune via Newsbank if you want to find the date and page of a particular article. You can then use the Digital Microfilm to see the article as it appeared in the newspaper. When connected to the Digital Microfilm site choose the Title Select link to search the Chicago Tribune. There is a lag of a few months until the images appear in this product. The full image of the Chicago Tribune from the current week is available in NewspaperDirect.
Barron’s Digital Microfilm from ProQuest provides full image content of Barron’s beginning in 2008. The content is not searchable, but is browsable. You can search and read articles from Barron’s in the eLibrary and Factiva databases. The Digital Microfilm version is best for viewing the many financial tables and charts not available in the other online versions of this product. When connected to the Digital Microfilm site choose the Title Select link to search Barron's. There is a six-month delay for content to be added to this online product. Skokie Public Library retains Barron’s in print format until the Digital Microfilm product is available. - Kids: We've got a great lineup for Activities for Kids scheduled for November! And we've added a new Native American Tribes of North America Homework Helper to our site.

- If you're enjoying Ken Burns' new documentary The National Parks: America's Best Idea on PBS, take a look at the list we've compiled of his older documentaries.
- The 2009 Man Booker Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature were just awarded. The Library owns this year's winners as well as many of the previous winners.
- Our newest booklist features Street Lit, also known as Urban Fiction, which depicts the harsh realities of inner-city life with the accompanying violence, rough language, and sexual situations often experienced there.
- Broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite recently passed away and we've put together a list of nonfiction shows which he hosted or narrated and which are owned by the Library.

- Kids and families: Enjoy one of our fun Activities for Kids in October!
- We've created a new audiobook list for your listening pleasure called Audiobooks of Jewish Interest.

- We're pleased to announce the opening of our Digital Media Lab! The Digital Media Lab is located on the first floor of the Library and is open to adult (high school and older) Skokie Public Library cardholders. It contains four new Apple desktop computers loaded with software that will enable users to creatively express themselves through digital videos, music, photography, websites, graphic design, podcasts, presentations, and other forms of digital media. The room also features two scanners, an electronic keyboard, and a green screen wall. Digital cameras, Flip video camcorders, portable hard drives, and tripods are also available for overnight checkout.
- Think inside the box and sample some music from one of our many boxed sets.
- Did you know that Skokie Public Library offers access to Music Online? Music Online contains hundreds of thousands of musical pieces for listening online. Genres from classical to jazz, from American roots to international music are represented. Liner notes and information on composers are included for most items in the collection. Users who choose to register can save playlists for repeated listening.
- Have you devoured the hit HBO show True Blood and the Charlaine Harris novels that inspired it? If you like Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series, we've created a list of some more sexy paranormal books to try.

- The 28th Annual Young Steinway Concert Series will get underway on Sunday, October 4 in Skokie Public Library's Petty Auditorium. Concerts begin at 3:00pm; free tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis one-half hour prior to each performance.

- Broadway, film, and television actor Patrick Swayze recently passed away and we've compiled a list of of Swayze's films that are owned by the Library.
- Teachers: Take a look at our updated Teacher's Guide and our new online Teacher Bookbag Request form.
- The latest edition of our Mystery Authors You May Have Missed newsletter features Rick Riordan.
- Oprah has announced the latest pick for her Book Club. The Library owns the latest title as well as all of the other titles she's selected since she started the Club in 1996.

- The Metropolitan Opera produces a series of live, high-definition broadcasts of operas which are shown in movie theaters across the United States, including theaters in Evanston, Niles, and Chicago. We've created a list of audiovisual materials for operas performed during the current Metropolitan Opera season that are available to borrow from the Library. Opera lovers will also want to visit our list of materials for operas performed during the current Lyric Opera season.
- Mark your calendars now for our 7th Annual Preschool and Child Care Fair which will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010.
- Teens: It's not too late to submit your entry for our 2009 Teen Read Week YouTube Contest!
- Our next Teen Book Discussion will be held on Monday, October 5.
