Programs & Events

 

Teens can attend and participate in programs at the Library that are specifically designed for them, such as teen book discussions and movie nights.  Many activities and events of interest to teens are held throughout the year, including book discussions, a teen poetry contest, photography and video contests, a teen job fair, gaming tournaments, and a Teen Read Week celebration. Teens and adults get together for instructional sessions with an experienced anime artist.

Teens and adults can watch Japanese animated features on a big screen while enjoying pocky and other Japanese snacks.

Teens meet to talk about books of current interest that have been suggested by teens.  Refreshments are provided.

This program is popular with teens who enjoy developing their ability to perform with little or no preparation.

Teens meet to discuss manga and view anime while enjoying Japanese snacks.  Adults are welcome!

Teens celebrate National Poetry Month with special programs and a display of winning poems from Skokie Public Library's most recent Teen Poetry Contest.

Color or black and white photos, shot by teens, are judged based on quality, originality, and creativity.

Skokie Public Library's Annual Teen Poetry Contest awards prizes for winners. The top three poems are submitted to a national contest.

Highlighting teen reading, Teen Read Week is celebrated each year during the third week of October.

The annual summer reading program is held during June and July for adults and teens.  All participants receive prizes.

This award is presented each year to a graduating senior of each of the Niles Township high schools. Recipients of the award are selected by librarians at the schools.

Teens enter the video contest by uploading their original work to YouTube.

Web resourceVillage of Skokie Human Relations Commission: Diversity Contest

Diversity Awareness contests are open to elementary, junior high, and high school students.  An Essay and Poetry Contest, a Technology Projects Contest, and a Poetry Contest are sponsored by this Village of Skokie commission.  Winning submissions are displayed at Skokie Public Library and can be viewed online.
