Where Rivers Meet: Songs and Stories by Masters of Arabic Music

Sunday, December 17, 2017
3:00 pm - 4:15 pm
Petty Auditorium

The Chicago Folklore Ensemble celebrates the cultural contributions of Middle Eastern immigrants, featuring three Chicago-area musicians.

Amro Helmy, an oud player from Egypt; Edward Hanna, a percussionist from Iraq; and Mary Hazboun, a vocalist from Palestine, perform with a string ensemble and storyteller Anita Darwish. Anita brings to life the cultural context and memories behind the music. The music and storytelling complement each other and weave a tapestry of sound that illustrates the complex, beautiful lives of three people from the Middle East.
