Meet the Seed Library

Posted on:

We’re excited to introduce our very own seed library, which provides you with free vegetable, fruit, herb, and flower seeds. Seeds are available until supplies run out, so we recommend that you visit early in the season.

Where can I find it?

The seed cart is usually on the second floor. It has wheels so we can bring it to plant-related events, and we may move it to other locations around the library this winter and spring.

Why did we start a seed library?

We understand that our community has a strong interest in gardening, nature, and the environment. We hope that having free seeds available encourages folks to grow their own food, start a pollinator garden, or just practice their green thumb.

How does it work?

Here are the guidelines for using the seed library:

  • All available seeds are in the top drawer of the cart.
  • The cart is self-service. Seeds do not need to be checked out; simply take them home.
  • Please take no more than 3 envelopes per person per month.
  • Each envelope contains 12-15 seeds.
  • Scan the QR code on the back of the envelope for more information and planting instructions

Where did the seeds come from?

All seeds were purchased from one of two companies. Rare Seeds distributes heirloom seeds, and Prairie Moon Nursery specializes in native seeds.

Can I donate seeds?

We are not accepting donations at this time. A seed-swapping event is coming this fall, so we encourage you to save your seeds for it.
