Skokie residents need one of two documents to sign up for a library card: either a photo ID that shows your current Skokie address or a current utility bill with your Skokie address. Please bring this documentation to the help desks on the first floor of the library or to the bookmobile. Once you have your card, it remains valid as long as you continue to live in Skokie.
Reciprocal Borrowing
If you live in Chicago or a suburb that is part of the RAILS public library system, bring your local library card and a photo ID that shows your name and current address to register that card with us. Once your card is registered, it won't expire in our system. However, if you move, make sure you notify us of your new address. You may need to obtain a new home library card if you move into a different library service area.
Nonresidents can check out up to 50 items, except for adult Most Wanted books, Hot Pick DVDs or Blu-rays, STEAM Kits, hotspots, Chromebooks, Library of Things, and eBooks and downloads. These items are limited to Skokie cardholders.
For staff at reciprocal libraries
