You may have to fill out Schedule 1, Schedule 2, and/or Schedule 3 if you received unemployment compensation, you are self-employed, or have an education or foreign tax credit. You can prepare and file your federal individual income tax return for free using this tax preparation/filing software. - The AARP Foundation offers federal income tax help at Skokie Public Library. This service is free of charge to low-income senior citizens and people with disabilities. Call the Village of Skokie Human Services Division at 847-933-8252 to find out if you are eligible and/or to schedule an appointment.
- For AARP Tax-Aide Site Locations, enter your zip code and distance from your home to find a nearby site. Tax-Aide services include federal and Illinois programs.
- Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) are two programs that offer free tax help to those over 60 years old, people with disabilities, those who need English language assistance, and people who make less than $67,000 annually.
- Illinois Department of Human Services Center for Economic Progress (CEP) and Ladder Up provide free income tax preparation and electronic filing for families with annual incomes up to $67,000 and individuals with annual incomes up to $35,000.
- Interactive Tax Assistant (ITA) is a tool that provides answers to a number of tax law questions.
