We work with local preschools and child care centers to help young children get ready to read. We provide supplemental classroom resources for teachers to use, get kids excited about books and learning, and help engage parents.
Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to sign up for our monthly email for early childhood educators.
Cards for Teachers
Administrators, teachers, and staff who work directly with students in a classroom or resource capacity or supervise such work in eligible schools can get a library card to check out materials and use some online resources for school educational purposes, and request educator resource bags. They are not intended for the cardholder’s personal use or use at other libraries. Educators interested in borrowing personal materials may register their personal library card and use it in accordance with the library’s Borrowing Policy.
Holders of educator library cards are subject to the library's Appropriate Library Use Policy and all other library policies and practices, unless otherwise specified by the terms of the agreement between the library and school or district, and including the following:
- Hot Pick DVDs and Most Wanted books may not be borrowed with educator library cards.
- Explore More Illinois and Museum Adventure Passes may not be borrowed with educator library cards.
- Items on hold for other patrons are not renewable and must be returned promptly by the due date.
- When a checked-out item is more than 21 days overdue, the cardholder will be unable to check out additional items until the overdue item is returned.
- Items not returned after being overdue for six weeks will be considered lost and will be billed at replacement cost.
- Damaged items will be billed to the account at replacement cost.
Teachers at child care centers may be authorized by their director to use business cards. Business cards must be renewed each August using the Business library card application.

Curriculum Support
We have created lists of items in various formats, including books, music, and YouTube videos, organized by popular curriculum themes. You can also browse our reading lists for kids or checkout one of our little learner sets, themed subject kits for preschoolers featuring a book, CD, and toy or game.
You may also request a theme bag. A librarian will select developmentally appropriate items according to the topics provided and check them out with your teacher card.
