As an artist, Brittany Bouyer’s practice blends hand-drawn, Art Nouveau-inspired florals and feminist narratives with digital illustration, mixed-media painting, and surface pattern design. She’s been pushing those motifs into tactile territory lately, layering paint, collage, and hand embroidery.
Brittany finds that creativity is as essential as breathing and believes passionately that everyone should have access to art and creation for healing and self-care.
The library's sense of welcome has created a second home for Brittany and her young daughter. During her residency, she hopes to extend that sense of welcome and plans to develop a collection of embellished works. She’ll make digitally drawn line art translated into stitchable patterns and prints that celebrate the everyday joys of reading with romantic botanicals and personal stories that connect us. The Studio will be both studio and classroom–a space where people can add a thread, a doodle, or a memory leaf to a communal piece. A space where Brittany can demonstrate how to turn iPad sketches into files for cutting and turning all of the processes into inspiration for new creations. A space where the embroidery and sewing machines will be humming! In addition to helping others explore design and creating, Brittany will facilitate a community project.
Brittany will hold regular office hours during November. Stop by the Studio to see the full schedule.
