As an artist deeply rooted in Arabic calligraphy and Islamic geometric art, Zeeshan Farooq’s creative practice uses primarily laser-cut woodwork merged with traditional forms. Each piece harmonizes heritage, geometry, and modern design.
During his residency, Zeeshan focused on developing a new series of works that layer calligraphy with Moroccan motifs and patterns. He explored light, depth, and negative space using wood, acrylic paint, and mixed media.
Community Project
Zeeshan led the creation of a community art project for the library—a collaborative mosaic using scrap wood pieces that remain from cutouts from other projects. These scrap pieces are often intricate geometric shapes that have lots of potential.
Community members of all ages helped select, paint, and arrange these individual pieces onto a large communal panel. Each participant added their voice through color, composition, or a short personal message, transforming these discarded fragments into a unified artwork that reflects the diversity and creativity of the library community.
The final piece is a testament to collective expression, sustainability, and the beauty of coming together through art.
