Small Things Like These
Based on the book by Claire Keegan. Set in 1985 Christmastime in the Irish Village New Ross, the story follows coal merchant Bill Furlong, a hardworking father of five daughters. While delivering coal to a local convent, he witnesses harsh treatment of a young girl and later, while making an earlier than usual delivery to the convent, he discovers teenaged Sarah locked in the shed. These events lead to a flashback to his own difficult childhood, growing up the son of an unwed mother. What can he do in the present, especially in a small community that is afraid to challenge the status quo?
