Into the Spotlight
This documentary follows a musical theater company of adult and teen actors with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Sponsored by the Highland Park United Methodist Church of Dallas through their Belong Ministry, the troupe creates original productions with help from theater professionals and many volunteers. Each year, a lottery system determines participants. The actors share ideas to create an original script and production, celebrating their creativity while telling a powerful message. Filmmaker Thaddeus D. Matula follows the troupe through their 11th annual musical performance during the 2021-2022 season, featuring interviews exclusively with the disabled participants to reveal their world.
