Event Details

This month we will be discussing Medgar & Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story That Awakened America by Joy-Ann Reid.

The 1963 murder of Mississippi NAACP field secretary Medgar Evers was a pivotal event in the civil rights movement. In Medgar & Myrlie, Joy-Ann Reid pans out to show the full lives of an extraordinary 20th-century couple. We see Medgar’s service in World War II and his role in forcing the Emmett Till case into the consciousness of a horrified nation. We also see how Myrlie Evers-Williams emerged from the shadow of her assassinated husband to become an activist and leader in her right and finally, decades later, to see his killers brought to justice.

Find Medgar & Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story That Awakened America in the library catalog.
