Event Details

How did the signing of the Declaration of Independence affect the Native American people? How did the government and its people view Native Americans, and what were the consequences of those views? Kim Sigafus will discuss the impact the Declaration of Independence had on the lives of the Native people and what ultimately was lost. She will cover how the Native people once lived, worked the land, and raised their children, and explain what was lost of their culture as western expansion took place. You will have the chance to learn music, drum, sing, and play Native American instruments. Traditional foods will also be discussed, and a recipe will be handed out.

Kim Sigafus is an award-winning Ojibwa author who writes Native American fiction, nonfiction, children’s, and young adult books. She has presented on Native history, food, and music, and has traveled all over the Midwest in her native regalia, bringing Native culture to life.
