Join Teen Library Council volunteers to paint a pot, take home some basil seeds to grow inside or outdoors, and learn about the new library seed cart.

All supplies provided but limited. For grade 6–12. 

Before watching Smurfs at 6:30 pm, visit the Activity Room for some Smurfy blue arts and crafts! 

Space is limited. Children younger than eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Create yourself as an anime-style character using step-by-step drawing techniques.

Kids in grade 3-6 attend on their own. Registration limited to 20 kids. 

Discover the basics of 3D design in this introductory class using Tinkercad, free and user-friendly software for creating 3D prints.

Illinois Extension Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening and seed-starting questions. You will also get a chance to see the new library seed cart and learn more about this service.

Need help learning to use resources in the library's makerspace? Staff can help during brief drop-in sessions as you learn to use one of the machines or specific software, or they can provide help with a specific project. 

Paint your own flower pot while learning about taking care of flowers and plants. We'll provide the supplies. You bring creativity and be prepared to get messy!

Learn how to do something new! We will have tables set up around the library with staff and volunteer experts sharing inspiration, knowledge, and creations. 

We'll reuse discarded books and other materials to upcycle them by making something new. 

For kids in grade K-2. Space is limited. Free tickets will be given to all who attend.

Learn the basics of quilting techniques while creating your own quilt square. 

Supplies will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own fabric. Participants should have a basic understanding of how to use a sewing machine.

Explore the basics of costume design with Naya Tadavarthy, Master of Fine Arts student at Northwestern University, as she leads a costume design challenge inspired by children's picture books.

Use small glass tiles to create a mosaic. Stay as long as you want, have snacks, and enjoy the craft time.

More than mere accessories, hand fans have a place in Asian history and culture. The origins go back thousands of years, across many different countries, as both tools and objects of art.

Learn simple bookbinding techniques and come away with your own, hand-bound blank book or journal. 

Supplies will be provided, no experience necessary.

Learn about the history of Palestinian embroidery, try it for yourself with help from an experienced artist, and take home your own piece.

For grade 6–12.

Bring an empty jar (or use one of ours) and turn it into a beautiful light creation with tissue paper. Come for as long as you'd like for this open craft time. 

Learn about Juneteenth and make your own Juneteenth flag in this event for families.

Learn basic crochet terminology and how to crochet in this introductory class. 

Materials will be provided, and supplies may be limited. You are welcome to bring your own hooks or yarn.
