Program Description

Event Details

Have you ever wanted to be part of a library book discussion group, but you worried that your English language skills were not strong enough?

In this class for advanced-level English learners, we will read and discuss an American novel together, with the support of Margaret Feit Clarke, an experienced ESL teacher from the ELL Parent Center.

You will strengthen your English skills while learning more about great literature, American culture, and the Skokie community. Limited to 16 participants.

The class will meet every Tuesday for 12 weeks: September 23-December 9, 10 am-noon.

We’ll read and talk about The Other Americans by Laila Lalami, a novel that is a family story, a mystery, a social commentary, and a love story. Free books will be available at the first meeting and are for you to read and keep.

Find The Other Americans in the library catalog.

Find additional titles by Laila Lalami in the library catalog.
