Summer Reading 2026 takes place June 1-July 31.

Learn simple bookbinding techniques and come away with your own, hand-bound blank book or journal. 

Supplies will be provided, no experience necessary.

Start your summer reading with the bookmobile at Lyon Park. Pick up a summer reading booklet and enjoy activities, treats, and giveaways. 

Enjoy fun stories, rhymes, and songs to build a love of books and reading.

Tickets will be distributed to those present starting at noon. For kids age 0-23 months with an adult. Space is limited.

Skokie civic leaders will review materials collected from residents and local organizations from the year 2025 and seal them away in our community time capsule to be opened in 2050. Reception will follow.

Young children are invited to explore nature in the North Courtyard. Be prepared to dig in and get your hands messy.

Strange World

Kids in preK-grade 5 and caregivers who are part of an LGBTQ+ family are invited to join our Rainbow Family Club. We'll hang out, chat, have snacks, and do activities. LGBTQ+ kids are also welcome to bring friends who are allies. 

Explore how the LGBTQIA+ community helped shape modern music. We'll journey from disco to the birth of house music in Chicago and explore how underground queer culture inspired the beats and anthems that eventually conquered the global charts.

Meet others and learn about current research, assistive devices, and community resources for people who have been diagnosed with an eye condition or have a family member who has vision impairment.

Grab a book and join our reading party. We'll provide snacks and recommendations for your summer reading.

Autistic youth and young people with disabilities age 15-21 are invited to develop job skills and serve the community in a fun and supportive environment. 

This drop-in playgroup is for babies age 0 to 23 months. Babies can play with developmentally appropriate toys while their grown-ups socialize with other parents and caregivers.

Share your family's immigration story to help celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month.

Practice speaking English with other members of the community. Volunteer tutors will help with conversations and answer questions.
